CNN contributor Jonathan Tasini celebrated on Twitter the crash of an Amtrak train carrying dozens of GOP members of Congress that resulted in the death of a Virginia man.
Tasini referenced a tweet from GOP Senator Trey Gowdy announcing his retirement when he wrote, “Wow, btwn train full of Goopers hitting truck and this, God is working hard today to clean up the stink. Thank her. #TreyGowdy #goptrainwreck”
A train carrying dozens members of congress from the Republican party, including House Speaker Paul Ryan, hit a garbage truck Jan. 31. One of two people in the garbage truck was killed. Others suffered minor injuries.
Tasini is the author of the book, “The Essential Bernie Sanders And His Vision For America” in 2015. Tasini claims to be a CNN “talking head” in his Twitter bio, according to Fox News.
Once people were outraged over his comments, Tasini responded with a tweet, “Let me say you time. I don’t work for CNN. They don’t pay me. They can’t fire me. I apologized nonetheless.”
CNN released a statement on Twitter claiming that Tasini wasn’t a contributor or employee.
Conservative Hollywood actor and producer, James Woods, was quick to point out that CNN’s website has published material from Tasini and he’s been on-air with them many times.
Tasini deleted the tweet after it was criticized. He said it was “was poked out in midst of convo w 2 colleagues on the deep racism/hypocrisy/criminality promoted by GOP or as GOPer Amanda Carpenter says, gaslighting of America.”
