Christian School Teacher Charged With Rape And Sodomy Of Student

Andrea Nicole Baber had a year-long relationship with the student, until she was caught in bed with the 15 year old.

Douglas County, OR – A Christian school teacher was arrested on Friday, Dec. 15, for having a sexual relationship with a then 15-year-old student.

Andrea Nicole Baber, 29, of Cottage Grove, faces multiple charges including third-degree rape, third-degree sodomy, contributing to the sexual delinquency of a minor, first-degree online sexual corruption of a minor, and unlawful delivery of marijuana to a person under 18 years of age, according to WPIX.

She was employed as an English Instructor at Logos Christian Academy in Springfield, according to WPIX, although she no longer works there.

Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) said that Baber began the relationship, “which continued on a regular basis,” in 2016. Baber also provided the juvenile male with marijuana and alcohol, according to court documents.

On Dec. 5, Baber’s husband walked in on her and the now-17-year-old male juvenile in bed together, partially unclothed. On Dec. 12, the boy’s father received an anonymous email asking whether he knew his son was in a sexual relationship with Baber.

Several pictures of Baber and the juvenile in bed together were attached to the email sent to the father.

Police interviewed the teen, according to The Register-Guard. In a probable cause affidavit, the boy told investigators that he had been in a relationship with Baber since 2016.

The boy told deputies that their relationship started with flirting at school, kissing at the movies, and eventually progressed to sexual acts, according to the affidavit.

He estimated having sex with his teacher once or twice a week at her residence on Territorial Highway, the affidavit states. He also told deputies that Baber occasionally gave him marijuana and alcohol.

During the investigation, authorities discovered that Baber’s husband recently made a report with Child Protective Services after he caught his wife and the teen in bed at his home on Dec. 5, according to the affidavit.

On Friday, police served a search warrant at the Baber residence while no one was home, according to court records.

When Baber and her husband returned home, Andrea Baber called 911 to report a burglary. Her husband then called back to say that the couple had found the search warrant receipt left by sheriff’s deputies and no longer needed assistance.

A short time later, deputies arrived at the home and arrested Andrea Baber, according to The Register-Guard.

Baber was arraigned Monday afternoon and was released from the Douglas County Jail, court records show. It does not appear that she entered a plea, and her next court hearing is scheduled for March 18.

Baber was employed as an English Instructor at Logos Christian Academy in Springfield, according to WPIX.

“She teaches language and literature, writing, and speech communication,” according to the school’s biography,” which also said, “Andrea has always felt called to work with youth and is very excited that God opened the door for her to be part of the Logos team. She lives with her husband, dog and cat just south of Eugene.”

She received a degree in English from Northwest Christian University in 2014.
