Chicago Police Officer Faces Discipline For Standing For America

A Chicago police officer is being disciplined for a photo of him making a political statement while in uniform.

Chicago, IL – A Chicago police officer was disciplined after showing support for the American flag, the national anthem, President Trump, and the Second Amendment.

The officer, whose name was not released, is shown in the photo standing in front of a Chicago police SUV, in uniform, holding an American flag, according to the Chicago Tribune.

A poster is shown on display in front of him, which has the following messages:  “I stand for the anthem,” “I love the American flag” and “I support my president and the 2nd Amendment.”  The officer received a formal reprimand from the Chicago Police Department on Wednesday, September 27.  On Facebook, It was under another message that read “2 sides to a story”.

This officer’s discipline came just two days after two Chicago officers in full uniform were reprimanded for posing in a photo that has since gone viral.  In that photo, the two officers were kneeling and raising their fist inside a police station, with an “activist” in the middle.

The kneeling was in support of former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who started the protest of kneeling during the national anthem in 2016.  Kaepernick has said that his protests were for police brutality and racial injustice.

Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said that all three officers were given reprimands in violation of department rules that forbids them from participation in any ‘partisan political campaign or activity while on duty’.  He said that it’s among the least severe discipline that an officer can face.

Chicago Code Blue, a pro-law enforcement group, shared the picture of the Chicago police officer with the flag on its Facebook page on Wednesday, with a caption that read “We commend you for your courage…Will the mayor?  That’s the question”.

Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel has said that he wants ‘rank-and-file’ officers to try to mend the gap between Chicago residents and the police.  He said that the the two black officers had the right idea but went about it the wrong way.

Mayor Emanuel added that he saw the kneeling photo a positive thing, because an activist felt comfortable enough with the officers to ask them to kneel.

That same activist blasted “European” officers for not kneeling.

In the end, all three of these officers took these photos knowing that they faced discipline and were violating department policies.

Our partners at Warrior 12, who print our Blue Lives Matter shirts, have launched a limited edition pre-order Stand For The Flag shirt so that you can proudly display that you don’t kneel.
