CAPTURED: Michigan College Shooter Who Murdered Mother And Cop Father

James Davis Jr. used his father's gun to kill his mother and father while they were visiting him at Central Michigan

Mount Pleasant, MI – James Davis Jr. was arrested Saturday after he used his father’s gun to shoot and kill his mother and father in a dorm building on the campus of Central Michigan University.

Davis Jr. used a gun that was registered to his father, James Davis Sr., who was a part-time police officer in Bellwood, Illinois, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Davis Jr. shot his parents at about 8:30 a.m. Friday at a residence hall at Central Michigan where he was a student.

The shooting happened on the day parents were arriving to pick up students for the beginning of spring break.

The shooting prompted a manhunt for Davis Jr. as the campus was locked down. More than 100 police officers searched for the killer.

Police officers dressed in camouflage knocked on doors and checked hiding places such as yards and porches, the Chicago Tribune reported. Students and staff in the Mount Pleasant public school district were told not to leave nine buildings.

CMU Police Chief Bill Yeagley said the gun belonged to Davis Sr. and added the father was seen on video in the dorm’s parking lot with the gun.

Davis Jr. was caught by police after someone on a train passing through the campus saw the suspect and reported it to authorities shortly after midnight, according to WILX-TV.

Davis Sr. was 48. Diva Davis, the mother, was 47.

Police believe the shooting started “from a domestic situation,” according to WILX. Police said they had contact with Davis Jr. on Thursday night in what could have been a drug overdose. Davis Jr. was taken to the hospital and treated by the medical staff. He was then released from the hospital and returned to campus.

The Davis family lived in Plainfield, Illinois, about 35 miles southwest of Chicago.
