Blackduck, MN – A Red Lake Nation police officer was killed while responding to a call at a home on the tribe’s reservation in northern Minnesota on Tuesday morning.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) Minneapolis field office said Red Lake Nation police officers were responding to a residence on the reservation on July 27 when a gunman at the home opened fire, KSTP reported.
A tribal police officer was fatally shot.
The FBI said that one suspect had been taken into custody in connection with the shooting, KSTP reported.
Officials have not yet released the identity of the gunman, nor has the police department released the name of the fallen hero.
The Red Lake Tribunal Council announced the death of the police officer in a Facebook post.
All non-essential programs on the reservation were cancelled and flags were ordered to be flown at half-staff for the rest of the week.
FBI agents have taken the lead on the investigation into the officer-involved shooting, WCCO reported.
