Toledo, OH – A Toledo police officer was killed Monday night during a standoff with a vandalism suspect.
The incident started at around 3:30 p.m. in the 2300 block of Fulton Street, according to WTVG.
Officers observed a man in the area and recognized him as the suspect who had vandalized a cathedral Monday morning, WTVG reported.
The officers approached the suspect, who then brandished a firearm and enter into a home, according to WEWS.
The suspect remained barricaded for several hours until SWAT fired tear gas into the home.
The suspect exited the home with two handguns at 6:30 p.m. and opened fire on officers.
24-year-old officer Brandon Stalker was shot once and killed in the attack, according to WTVG.
The officer leaves behind a fiance and young child.

The suspect was shot by police during the gunfight. No information has been released about the suspect’s identity or his condition.
