BREAKING: Texas Deputy Shot In Neck By Gunman, 3 More Shot

Police are searching for 65-year-old Pavol Vido, who killed a woman and wounded three others, including a deputy.

Cleveland, TX – A manhunt is underway for a gunman who killed a woman, shot a Liberty County deputy in the neck, and wounded two other men on a rampage in Liberty County on Wednesday morning.

Law enforcement is hunting for 65-year-old Pavol Vido, who lived in a metal container behind the B Dependable Plumbing business where the shootings occurred, KTRH reported.

The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office had served Vido with eviction papers within the last month, according to KTRH.

The incident began shortly before 7:30 a.m. on May 29 when the shooting was first reported to authorities, KHOU reported.

Deputies said Vido shot and killed a woman at B Dependable Plumbing, located in the 26300-block of Highway 321/Houston Street.

Then two men walked into the business and Vido opened fire on them, too, before he fled the scene, according to KHOU.

All three victims were employees of the plumbing company.

Liberty County Deputy Richard Whitten encountered Vido several miles away at the Big Thicket Veterinary Clinic, KTRH reported.

“One of our deputies jumped the vehicle as it was leaving the scene,” Liberty County Sheriff’s Captain Ken DeFoor said. “The suspect jumped out of his car, started shooting at the deputy, the deputy returned fire. The deputy was shot one time in the throat.”

The suspect fled in a white 2004 Mercury sedan. That vehicle has since been located east of Huffman, not far from the original shooting scene at the plumbing company.

Deputy Whitten, a four-year veteran of the sheriff’s department, was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston in the Texas Medical Center where he was said to be in stable condition, KHOU reported.

A police officer who was at the hospital said Deputy Whitten’s family had arrived and was by the side of the wounded deputy.

“Like all other mass shootings, it’s regrettable, it’s something you see no logic in and there’s no justifiable reason for something like this,” Captain DeFoor told reporters.

No information has yet been released about the identity of the woman who was killed or those of the two men who were wounded, KTRH reported.

The two men who were wounded were transported to a hospital in Conroe, KHOU reported.

All Cleveland Independent School District and Tarkington Independent School District schools remained on “lock-in” status as a precaution shortly before noon, KHOU reported.

Police said the suspect was last seen heading south on Highway 321 towards Dayton.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety, Cleveland police, and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office were assisting in the search for the fugitive, KHOU reported.

Additionally, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice sent tracking dogs to help authorities locate the wanted man.
