BREAKING: State Trooper Shot Twice, Authorities Searching For Gunman

Harrison County, KY – A Kentucky State Police (KSP) trooper was shot on Friday afternoon in a Cynthiana trailer park.

The incident occurred at about 4:20 p.m. on Jan. 28 as the trooper was making a traffic stop on Delta Court, WLEX reported.

Neighbors in the area said they heard multiple gunshots.

Witnesses said the gunman fled the scene in a vehicle, WLEX reported.

The trooper was reportedly shot twice.

The wounded hero was wearing a bullet-proof vest, but officials have not yet said where the law enforcement officer was shot or provided any information on the extent of their injuries, WLEX reported.

The trooper was transported to Harrison Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Update: KSP Captain Paul Blanton confirmed that a Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife officer was first on the scene after the trooper was shot, and loaded the wounded hero into his vehicle to transport him to Harrison Memorial Hospital, WDKY reported.

From there, the trooper was quickly taken to the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital Trauma Center, according to Capt. Blanton.

Kentucky State Police officials said the wounded trooper was responsive when he was taken from the scene, WKYT reported.

On Saturday morning, state police officials said he was in “stable” condition, according to WDKY.

The state police have not yet released the trooper’s identity, nor any details of the incident.

For hours after the shooting, police said that suspect had not been apprehended, WKYT reported.

A search involving law enforcement officers from multiple agencies was ongoing, according to WLEX.

Update: The suspect was located and arrested by state troopers and Lexington police at about 10:04 p.m. on Friday night. Authorities have not yet released his identity, WDKY reported.

The KSP Critical Incident Response Team is heading up the investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
