BREAKING: Police Kill Active Shooter Inside Nebraska Target

Omaha, NE – Omaha police officers killed an active shooter inside a Target store in Nebraska on Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities said the incident began at about 12 noon on Jan. 31 when the gunman, armed with an AR-15 style rifle, walked into the big box store located near 178th Street and West Center Road in Omaha and began shooting, KETV reported.

Omaha police officers arrived on the scene six minutes after the first 911 call was received and confronted the active shooter.

Omaha police Chief Todd Schmaderer told reporters the shooter was fatally shot by responding officers, KETV reported.

“The first arriving officers went into the building, confronted the suspect and shot him dead,” Chief Schmaderer said, according to the Associated Press. “He had an AR-15 rifle with him and plenty of ammunition.”

“There’s evidence to suggest, with shell casings, that he entered the Target and was firing rounds [before officers arrived],” the police chief explained.

Police have conducted two sweeps of the Target store and did not find any other victims wounded by gunfire, NBC News reported.

Omaha police detectives and forensic technicians were conducting the investigation at the big box store, KETV reported.

Target said the store would be closed “until further notice.”

“Following an incident in our Omaha West store, we can confirm that all guests and team members safely evacuated the store. The store will remain closed until further notice. We are partnering with the Omaha (Police Department) as we learn more,” a Target spokesperson said in a statement.
