BREAKING: One Mississippi Cop Killed, Another Shot In Standoff With Domestic Violence Suspect

Brandon, MS – One Madison Police Department officer was killed and a Brandon Police Department officer was seriously wounded during a standoff with a gunman on Thursday.

The incident occurred in the morning on June 1 after Brandon police responded to a domestic incident between and man and a woman at a residence just off Crossgates Drive, WGNO reported.

Officials said that when responding officers arrived on the scene, the suspect began shooting at them.

A Brandon police officer was shot and suffered serious wounds, WGNO reported.

He was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment while backup from other law enforcement agencies descended on the scene to assist.

The suspect remained barricaded inside the home with a hostage for more than an hour while negotiators tried to get him to surrender, WGNO reported.

That was when a SWAT team breached the home to rescue the hostage trapped inside with the gunman, according to officials.

Mississippi Department of Public Safety (MDPS) officials said that Madison police officer was fatally shot while attempting to enter the home, WGNO reported.

Officers returned fire and the suspect was also killed.

MDPS said the Brandon officer who was shot first remained in stable condition after treatment at the hospital.

The fallen hero has been identified as retired Ridgeland Police Chief Horren Randy Tyler, who was working for Madison police when he was fatally shot, WGNO reported.

Police have not yet identified the suspect who allegedly shot the heroes.
