BREAKING: Officer Shot, Police Describe Ongoing ‘Active-Shooter Situation’

An officer has been shot and police are trying to contain an "active-shooter situation."

Barnstable, MA – A Yarmouth police officer was shot Thursday afternoon in what police are now describing as an “active-shooter situation” in the Marstons Mills section of Barnstable, WCVB reported.

The Massachusetts State Police told WCVB the officer was serving a warrant at a home on Blueberry Lane at about 3:30 p.m. when he was shot.

WBZ-TV reported that the officer was shot in the upper body and that he had multiple serious injuries. He was transported to the hospital by ambulance.

Police said that the suspect was not in custody, but was believed to still be inside the home after the shooting, WBZ reported.

There is a massive police presence in the area as police determine where, exactly, the shooter is and figure out next steps, WBZ reported.

UPDATE: Suspect is in custody, according to WBZ.

UPDATE: The officer has succumbed to his injuries, multiple sources said, according to WBTS.
