A Fort Lupton police officer was critically wounded late on Monday night while responding to a call about an armed man.

Fort Lupton, CO – A Fort Lupton police officer was critically wounded while responding to a call for a man armed with a gun late Monday night.

The incident occurred at about 10:40 p.m. on Dec. 2 after police received a call about an armed man in the 200-block of Ponderosa Place, KMGH reported.

The 19th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) put out a press release that said when officers arrived, they learned that the suspect had been trying to contact somebody inside one of the residences.

When police approached the home in question, the suspect opened fire on them, KMGH reported.

Officers returned fire and wounded the suspect.

One officer was struck by the suspect’s gunfire, according to KMGH.

Both the wounded officer and the suspect were airlifted to the hospital.

The officer and the man who shot him are both listed in “critical condition,” according to KMGH.
