Clinton, OK – A police officer was shot by a pedestrian Thursday afternoon in Clinton.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) said a detective from the Clinton Police Department was driving a patrol vehicle in the area of Third Street and Hayes Avenue when he was shot by someone on the street.
KOCO reported that police officials said the detective was shot in both arms.
Emergency crews responded to the scene of the shooting and transported the police detective to a local hospital. Authorities said they believed the officer had sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators said the pedestrian was apprehended by police officers at the scene, but it was unclear why the pedestrian shot the detective, according to KOTV.
Law enforcement officers from multiple agencies responded to the scene of the shooting, including Clinton police officers, Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers, and Custer County Sheriff’s deputies.
Police have not yet released the name of the officer who was shot, or his assailant.
