San Jose, CA – Multiple people have been shot and an unknown number of people were killed after an active shooter opened fire at a Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) control center on Wednesday morning.
The attack occurred at the VTA control center located at 100 West Younger Avenue, Santa Clara Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) Public Information Officer Russell Davis told reporters during a brief press conference on Wednesday morning.
Police received multiple 911 calls about shots being fired at the facility beginning at 6:34 a.m.
Multiple law enforcement jurisdictions responded to the scene for what Davis described as an “active shooter” incident.
Davis confirmed multiple people were wounded and multiple people have died as a result of the attack.
“The victims are VTA employees,” he confirmed.
He said the investigation is still ongoing and that he intends to provide more details about the number of dead and injured victims later this morning.
“The suspect is confirmed deceased,” Davis said.
He did not release the identity of the suspect, nor any details regarding the shooter’s cause of death.
Davis said he does not know if the attack occurred inside or outside the facility.
“Everything is preliminary,” he told reporters. “This just occurred.”
