BREAKING: Memphis Cop Shot In The Head

Memphis, TN – A Memphis police officer was shot in the head in front of the Poplar-White Station Library in East Memphis on Thursday afternoon and a second person is dead.

The incident occurred at about 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 2 in front of the library located in the 5000-block of Poplar Avenue, the Commercial Appeal reported.

Memphis police have not yet released any details about what led up to the fatal officer-involved shooting, WHBQ reported.

The police department said an officer was gravely wounded in the exchange of gunfire and had been transported to the hospital in “extremely critical condition.”

He has been taken into surgery.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) said that Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy’s office had asked them head up the investigation into the officer-involved shooting, WHBQ reported.

Memphis police said the second person who sustained a gunshot wound was pronounced dead at the scene, WHBQ reported.
