BREAKING: Manhunt Underway After Suspects Hit NJSP Trooper With Stolen Car

North Bergen, NJ – A New Jersey State Police (NJSP) trooper was struck by a vehicle near the Lincoln Tunnel on Sunday, sparking a high-speed chase and massive manhunt.

The crash occurred at about noon on May 16 on the Route 495 approach to the Lincoln Tunnel at Tonnelle Avenue in North Bergen, the Daily Voice reported.

First responders said that an NJSP police vehicle was rammed by a black BMW X5 that had been reported stolen from Totowa.

The sources told the Daily Voice the suspect vehicle was occupied by four black men and fled after they struck the trooper.

It wasn’t known whether the trooper was inside or outside of his car when he was hit.

The injured hero was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center, the Daily Voice reported.

Officials have not released any information on his condition.

The chase began on the northbound eastern spur of the New Jersey Turnpike that led to Route 495 but the suspects evaded apprehension, the Daily Voice reported.

Police shut down traffic at the circle at Route 3 and 1&9, as well as on eastbound Route 495 and state police helicopters searched the area.

Authorities believed the BMW that hit the trooper doubled-back toward Newark via Routes 1&9, the Daily Voice reported.

The suspect vehicle had a New Jersey license plates X90-JPN.

State police, Jersey City police, and multiple other law enforcement agencies were working together in a massive manhunt effort to catch the suspects, the Daily Voice reported.

Authorities have asked that anyone who spots the suspect vehicle call 911 immediately.
