Lynn, IN – There is an ongoing shooting incident happening in Lynn that began when a gunman opened fire on officers responding to a domestic violence report at a home on Friday afternoon.
UPDATE: Three officers were wounded by bullet shrapnel and are expected to recover. The gunman was taken into custody alive after suffering serious gunshot wounds.
Officers responded to the home on West Church Street where the gunman was holding a female victim hostage, the Winchester News Gazette reported.
The hostage has since been released but the gun battle between police and suspect has continued.
Indiana State Police confirmed that at least one police officer was wounded, WRTV reported.
Police said he had been hit by shrapnel during the gunfight.
There were also unconfirmed reports of additional law enforcement officers wounded at the scene.
Lynn is located on the border of Indiana and Ohio, in Randolph County.
Gunfire could be heard over the police radio traffic on scanners.
Dispatchers said they had been told the man had as much as 1,000 rounds of ammunition inside his home, according to the Star Press.
The man reported started breaking out windows on the north side of the building and firing gunshots at police “to the north” at 3:50 p.m.
The Star Press reported that a Randolph County deputy said officers were “pinned down” at the scene.
SWAT teams from multiple counties were responding to the scene.
