BREAKING: Harris County Deputy Shot In Head

A Harris County sheriff's deputy was shot during a traffic stop early on Friday afternoon.

Harris County, TX – A Harris County sheriff’s deputy was shot during a traffic stop on Friday in northwest Harris County.

The incident occurred in the 14800-block of Willancy Court near West Road just west of Jersey Village early Friday afternoon, KTRK reported.

KHOU reports that the deputy was shot in the head and critically injured while performing a traffic stop in a small cul-de-sac in a residential neighborhood.

Witnesses said first responders from the Cy-Fair Fire Department were performing CPR on the wounded deputy before he was transported.

The deputy was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital via Life Flight, KRIV reported.

When he was loaded into the helicopter, the wounded deputy did not have a pulse, according to KHOU.

The suspect the deputy stopped was wanted on an open warrant for at least one parole violation.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez confirmed the incident on Twitter.

“One of our @HCSOTexas deputies has been shot while conducting a traffic stop, 14807 Willancy Ct @ West Rd. Please keep him your prayers. #HouNews,” Sheriff Gonzalez tweeted.

One suspect has been taken into custody but KHOU reported that police were still searching for additional suspects who may have escaped.

Sources say the suspect had at least one open warrant for a parole violation.
