BREAKING: Gunman Opens Fire On Officer, Shoots K9

La Vergne, TN – A gunman opened fire on a La Vergne police officer on Tuesday afternoon and shot the officer’s K9 partner.

The incident occurred early on the afternoon of Nov. 17 at the Rutherford Pointe Apartments in the 1500 block of Rutherford Point Circle, WZTV reported.

A city official said that an armed suspect fired shots at the La Vergne officer but missed him.

The officer was not injured, WSMV reported.

However, the gunfire struck the officer’s K9 partner, the Daily News Journal reported.

The K9 was transported to an emergency veterinarian for treatment, WZTV reported.

La Vergne police have not yet said which of the department’s three K9s was wounded.

No information on the condition of the K9 was available.

Officials have not said whether the officer returned fire, but the suspect was reportedly transported to the hospital for treatment, WZTV reported.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) has been called in to head up the investigation into an officer-involved shooting.
