BREAKING: Female Middle School Shooter In Custody, Students Down

A female middle school student shot two classmates on Thursday morning.

​Westlake, CA – Two students were shot by another student on Thursday morning at Castro Middle School in Westlake.

Police received a report of someone shooting in the 1500 block of West 2nd Street at about 8:55 a.m., Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Officer Drake Madison told the Los Angeles Times.

Officer Drake said the call came from inside Castro Middle School, located on the campus of Belmont High School.

Police took the female student who opened fire on her classmates into custody at the scene, FOX News reported.

LAPD Detective Meghan Aguilar said the suspect had a weapon when she was arrested.

Officers could be seen escorting a female student, who appeared to be under arrest, to a police car in video shot by KTLA’s news

Police said the two students, a boy and a girl, may have been shot in a classroom. Both victims were being treated by paramedics and their conditions were unknown.

Authorities said the situation was under control, but news helicopter footage showed officers still searching students up against a wall of the school building, and releasing them one at a time.
