BREAKING: Escambia County Deputy Shot While At Suicidal Person Call

An Escambia County sheriff's deputy was shot when he responded to a call about a suicidal person on Wednesday.

Escambia County, FL – An Escambia County sheriff’s deputy was shot while responding to a call about a suicidal person on Wednesday afternoon.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a person threatening to commit suicide at about 1:37 p.m. on Dec. 11 in the 400-block of Limerick Drive, according to a post on the sheriff’s department’s official Facebook page.

The suspect opened fire on deputies when they arrived on the scene, and the deputies returned fire.

One of the responding deputies suffered bullet wounds during the gunfight, according to the sheriff’s department.

The suspect and the deputy were both transported to a local hospital for treatment.

This was the third Escambia County deputy to be shot this week, WKRG reported.

The first two were wounded in the attack on the Pensacola Naval Air Station on Dec. 6.

Officials have not released the name of the wounded deputy, nor any information on his medical condition or that of the suspect, WKRG reported.
