Detroit, MI – A Detroit Police Department officer was murdered and a second was wounded when they were ambushed on a call for service Wednesday night.
Officers responded to a responded to a call in the area of Wyoming and Pembroke on Detroit’s west side, according to WXYZ.
The officers arrived on scene to find the home occupants fleeing because a suspect inside was armed with a “high-powered rifle.”
Four officers made entry into the home to search for the suspect. The officers cleared the top floor of the home and were heading downstairs when the gunman opened fire on them.
An 18-year veteran officer was shot in his neck, and a three-year veteran officer was shot in his leg. They were both transported to the hospital where the officer with the neck wound succumbed to his injuries, according to WXYZ.
The suspect was wounded in the gunfight and is expected to recover.
The identities of the officers and suspect have not been released at this time.
