Templeton, CA – A San Luis Obispo County sheriff’s deputy was shot during a gun battle with a suspect on Thursday morning.
The incident occurred at about 10:20 a.m. on Sept. 24 near Templeton Cemetery Road, KEYT reported.
A suspect and the deputy exchanged gunfire and the suspect was fatally shot.
No details have been released about what led up to the altercation and shooting.
The deputy was airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment, KEYT reported.
No information about the condition of the wounded deputy has been released.
Officials have not yet released the identity of the dead gunman or the San Luis Obispo County sheriff’s deputy, KEYT reported.
The sheriff’s department has asked residents to avoid the area while the investigation is conducted.
