Decatur, GA – A DeKalb County sheriff’s deputy and two others were wounded in a shooting at a grocery store on Monday.
A DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) spokesperson said the incident occurred at the Big Bear supermarket located at South DeKalb Mall off of Candler Road, WXIA reported.
Authorities said a man and woman were having a disagreement inside the store and then the man drew a gun and started firing at the woman, WAGA reported.
The sheriff’s spokesperson said a DCSO Reserve Unit deputy was working a part time security detail at the store when the shooting began.
The deputy intervened and was shot at, then he returned fire, WAGA reported.
“Although details are not complete, authorities say that the male suspect was involved in a dispute with a young woman before he began firing at her inside the store,” the sheriff’s department said.
The DeKalb County Police Department also responded to the scene, WXIA reported.
The deputy, the female victim, and the gunman were all transported to the hospital for treatment, WAGA reported.
No information regarding their conditions has been released.
Authorities have not released the identity of the wounded deputy, nor that of the others who were shot.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has taken the lead in the investigation of the deputy-involved shooting.
