BREAKING: Chicago Police Officer Down

Chicago, IL – A Chicago police officer was shot while responding to a domestic violence call in Little Italy on Friday morning.

Chicago Police Spokesman Tom Ahern said the incident occurred at about 9 a.m. on July 1 in the 1300-block of West Taylor Street on the city’s Near West Side, WGN reported.

The wounded officer was assigned to the city’s 12th District, WLS reported.

Police have not yet released any details about the incident other than to confirm that an officer was shot.

The officer was transported to Stroger Hospital for treatment, WGN reported.

No information on the wounded hero’s medical condition has yet been released.

Officials also have not yet identified the wounded hospital by name, WGN reported.

There was a heavy police presence in the 1300-block of West Taylor Street after the incident, just a few blocks from the University of Illinois – Chicago campus, according to WMAQ.

Police said the gunman who shot the officer remained at large, WLS reported.
