Hesperia, CA – A Hesperia sheriff’s deputy was shot during a confrontation with a suspect on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident occurred in the parking lot of a shopping center near Bear Valley Road and Jacaranda Avenue, according to a tweet by the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department.
The wounded deputy has been transported to the hospital.
Neither the identity of the deputy nor their condition has been released.
Authorities have a suspect in custody, KABC reported.
The suspect has also been transported to a local hospital.
Multiple San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies and multiple California Highway Patrol units were on the scene, according to the Daily Press.
The city of Hesperia has had contract with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department for its police services since 1988, according to the county website.
The Hesperia Police Department consists of 58 sworn sheriff’s deputies and officials from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
