BREAKING: Baltimore Officer Ambushed, Shot Multiple Times

Baltimore, MD – A Baltimore police officer is in critical condition on life support after being ambushed while sitting in a police vehicle early Thursday morning.

The incident occurred just before 1:30 a.m. on Dec. 16 when Baltimore police officers responded to a call about a car wreck in the 4400-block of Pennington Avenue, WBFF reported.

When the officers arrived on the scene, they discovered the crash involved a Baltimore police officer assigned to the Southern District.

The officer had been shot multiple times, according to WBFF.

Officers immediately began rendering aid to their wounded colleague and the officer was rushed to University of Maryland Shock Trauma.

Trauma surgeons said the wounded officer was taken straight into the operating room on full life support, WBFF reported.

Some media outlets have reported that the wounded hero is a female, but Baltimore police have not released the name or any identifying details about the officer.

Officials said investigators had determined the officer was on duty, sitting in a marked patrol vehicle when the gunman walked up to the car from behind and started shooting.

Investigators think the officer accelerated and crashed the vehicle a short time later, WBFF reported.

“This was a cowardly, brazen act to walk up and open fire on a police officer who was doing what we asked that officer to do – to go out and protect and serve,” Baltimore City Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said during an early morning press briefing.

“Our prayers are with the officer’s family. We are determined to find those responsible for this heinous crime and will not rest until we do,” Commissioner Harrison vowed.

He asked the public to come forward with any information about the suspect or the shooting, WBFF reported.

“I am asking anyone who knows anything, who has heard anything, who saw something, who knows somebody who knows something, to please call police right away,” he added.
