Bear, DE – Police are searching for an active shooter in Bear on Friday after a gunman shot two people in a cemetery and then fled into the nearby woods.
The incident began at about 10:15 a.m. on May 8 in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery located in the 2400-block of Chesapeake City Road, WPVI reported.
Delaware State Police responded to the scene and found two people suffering from gunshot wounds.
That’s when sniper fire erupted from the woods next to the cemetery and appeared to be aimed at the officers, the Delaware News Journal reported.
Some reports indicated that witnesses said the suspect was armed with a rifle with a scope.
Police said at least one person was transported to the hospital but they have not released information about the conditions of either victim, KYW reported.
Radio scanner traffic indicated that the second victim was dead at the scene, the Delaware News Journal reported.
New Castle County police have asked residents to shelter-in-place while the situation is resolved.
Delaware State Police and New Castle County police are searching the area for the gunman, WPVI reported.
The Delaware State Police helicopter is assisting with the search, the Delaware News Journal reported.
