Dothan, AL – A Dothan police officer was shot during a traffic stop early on Monday afternoon.
The incident occurred at about 12:30 p.m. on April 19 at Third Avenue and Trim Street, WTVY reported.
Sources told WKRG that several officers were making a traffic stop when a suspect got out of the vehicle, brandished a weapon, and opened fire on police.
His condition was unknown.
WTVY reported the officer was shot in the leg.
The area has been blocked off with crime scene tape.
Multiple law enforcement agencies have responded to the scene to assist, according to WTVY.
Sources told WTVY that there was a second gunshot victim but officials have released no information about what led up to the shootings.
Details were limited and officials were expected to release an update soon.
The investigation into the officer-involved shooting was ongoing, the Dothan Eagle reported.
