BREAKING: ‘Active Shooter’ In Tennessee Grocery Store, Multiple People Shot

Collierville, TN – Multiple people have been shot in an “active shooter” incident at a Kroger grocery store in Collierville on Thursday and the situation is ongoing.

The “active shooter” scene is taking place inside the Kroger grocery store located in the 200-block of New Byhalia Road, WHBQ reported.

Town of Collierville Public Information Officer Jennifer Casey told the Commercial Appeal that law enforcement had secured the area outside of the store.

She said the gunman was not yet in custody and Collierville police officers were actively trying to get customers out of the Kroger.

Casey said there have been multiple injuries but said she had no idea how many people had been shot or the extent of their injuries.

She said victims were being transported to nearby hospitals, the Commercial Appeal reported.

Memphis police are assisting with securing a perimeter around the scene, according to Casey.

Witness Glenda McDonald said she was working Kroger’s floral department when the gunfire erupted, the Commercial Appeal reported.

McDonald said she had just come out of the back office to work at the counter when she heard what she thought sounded like a gunshot.

“I just ran out the door,” she told the Commercial Appeal. “I left my purse, my keys, everything.”

McDonald said she thought she saw a bagger and some customers get shot before she escaped from the store.

She said she didn’t know how many people had been wounded, the Commercial Appeal reported.

WHBQ reported that multiple ambulances had been seen rushing from the scene and that at least two helicopters had airlifted patients so far.

UPDATE: The Collierville police chief announced shortly before 4:30 p.m. EDT that the gunman was dead. He said at least 13 people had been shot, one of them fatally.
