BREAKING: ‘Active Shooter’ In Massachusetts

Middleborough, MA – Police have asked residents to shelter in place while they search for an “active shooter” on Friday morning.

“STAY AWAY FROM THE AREA !!!!! Anyone living on Evergreen shelter in place!” the Middleborough Police Department posted to its official Facebook page at 9:35 a.m. on July 9.

Those who don’t live nearby the area were asked to avoid it entirely, WCVB reported.

Massachusetts State Police were assisting Middleborough police in the hunt for a gunman off Route 28 near Grove Street and Evergreen Drive, WBTS reported.

State police issued an update that said a male suspect wearing fatigues had fled into the woods west of Evergreen at Route 28.

Middleborough is located south of Boston and west of Plymouth.

The scene of the shooting is located near Interstate 495, according to WBTS.

Officials have not released any information about how many people may have been shot.

Police have set up a large perimeter around the area where they believe the suspect may be hiding, The Standard-Times reported.

A large-scale search is underway involving multiple law enforcement agencies.

UPDATE: The suspect who opened fire outside a Massachusetts Department of Transportation public works facility was captured by police at about 11:30 a.m., WBSM reported.

There have not been any reports of gunshot victims at this time.
