BREAKING: 3 Shot At Idaho Middle School

Rigby, ID – Two students and one custodian were shot by a student at Rigby Middle School on Thursday morning.

Jefferson County Sheriff Steve Anderson told East Idaho News that the shooter was in custody.

The school district hasn’t released any details yet other than to confirm there had been an “active shooter” incident on campus.

Idaho Falls Fire Department Spokeswoman Kerry Hammon confirmed to reporters that three victims had been transported by Ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, East Idaho News reported.

Hammon said all three people were in stable condition.

Multiple law enforcement agencies have responded to the scene to assist and the Rigby Middle School remained in lockdown as the buildings were search room-by-room, the East Idaho News reported.

Students were being evacuated and taken to Rigby High School for reunification with their families, KIFI reported.

“Today we had the worst nightmare a school district could encounter. We had a school shooting here at Rigby Middle School,” Jefferson School District Superintendent Chad Martin said. “What we know so far is the shooter has been apprehended. There is no further threat to the students.”

Sheriff Anderson did not release the name of the shooter or the victims but said all of the parents of the wounded students had been already been contacted, KIFI reported.

“I am monitoring the heartbreaking events in Rigby today and my heart goes out to all of those involved in this tragedy,” U.S. Representative Mike Simpson (R-Idaho) tweeted. “To the first responders and our heroic teachers and faculty who are keeping our children safe, thank you.”
