BREAKING: 2 Houston Police Officers Down

Houston, TX – Two Houston police officers were shot while serving an arrest warrant on Monday morning.

The incident occurred inside the Timber Ridge gated community area in the 5300-block of Aeropark Drive shortly before 7:30 a.m. on Sept. 20, KHOU reported.

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner’s office has confirmed that two officers were wounded.

Police said one officer was shot in the leg and the other was shot in the stomach.

The gunman was also shot and died at the scene, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez confirmed in a tweet.

The suspect’s identity has not been released.

One of the wounded officers was rushed to the hospital via ambulance with a large police escort, KHOU reported.

The second officer was airlifted from the scene.

Their conditions are unknown.

Details regarding what led up to the shooting have not been released.

Both officers are members of the Houston Police Department’s Major Offenders fugitive warrant team, according to KHOU.

One of the wounded officers is a Houston police sergeant who joined the department in 1997.

The second wounded officer has more than 30 years on the force, KHOU reported.
