Birmingham, AL – Two Birmingham police officers were shot and two more were injured inside an apartment building in Southside on Sunday afternoon.
The incident occurred at about 1:20 p.m. on May 16 near 18th Street and 10th Avenue South, AL.com reported.
Police described the scene as a “major incident” and a blocks-wide perimeter was set up around the area.
Residents told AL.com the shooting happened on the third floor of an apartment building.
However, police have not yet confirmed that report or provided any details about what led up to the shootings.
Sources told AL.com that that the gunman who shot the officers was dead.
The wounded officers were transported by police vehicles to the University of Alabama – Birmingham Hospital.
Police have not released any information about the officers’ conditions other than to say that two were shot and two were grazed by gunfire, WTVM reported.
A SWAT team is on the scene, AL.com reported.
