Kannapolis, NC – A 19-year-old man was arrested in North Carolina after authorities discovered he was plotting to assassinate former Vice President Joe Biden.
Court documents showed that the investigation into Alexander Hillel Treisman began after employees at a local bank contacted the Kannapolis Police Department about an abandoned Ford van in their parking lot, WTVD reported.
Police discovered an AR-15 style rifle, a handgun, ammunition, and explosive materials inside the van, WSOC reported.
Investigators then found $509,000 in cash, six additional guns, books on how-to make bombs and improvised weapons, and drawings of swastikas and planes hitting buildings, according to court documents.
“Further investigation uncovered several indicators that criminal activity was afoot,” Kannapolis Police Chief Terry Spry said, according to The Washington Post. “Federal agents were contacted and while awaiting their arrival the suspect returned to the business.”
Treisman was taken into custody on May 28 when he returned to the bank to retrieve the van, WSOC reported.
Court docs say Alexander Treisman left this van at a Kannapolis Fifth Third Bank. In it police discovered a bunch of guns, explosive material and $509K. Detectives searched the vehicle that he arrived at the bank in and found two more guns and three driver’s licenses – for California, Florida, and Washington – in his wallet.
He was also carrying a concealed weapon for which he had no permit, WTVD reported.
Police said Treisman’s address is in Seattle and it was unclear why his van was parked at a Kannapolis bank, WSOC reported.
Officers arrested Treisman for carrying a concealed weapon and then contacted the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Officials said federal investigators searched Treisman’s electronic devices and social media and gaming accounts and discovered child pornography, WSOC reported.
The eight-page detention order said federal investigators found 6,721 images and 1,248 videos of child pornography on eight different digital devices, The Washington Post reported.
He was booked into the Cabarrus County Jail on child pornography charges, WSOC reported.
But during a hearing in early October, the judge cited the evidence found in Treisman’s van for keeping him in custody.
Investigators said that Treisman had written a note in 2019 that contained a plan for a mass shooting at a mall food court on Christmas or Black Friday.
He also posted on Reddit that he was “going to do a columbine for a while, [but] I think it would better to put it towards something more memorable,” The Washington Post reported.
After Sen. Bernie Sanders suspended his presidential campaign, Treisman posted on Reddit that he had to “save Bernie” and posted a meme about killing Biden, according to The Washington Post.
Court documents said investigators found Internet searches for “information about Joe Biden’s home address, state gun laws, rifle parts, and night vision goggles” between March and May, WSOC reported.
Investigators determined that Treisman had posted a meme about killing Joe Biden and then bought an AR-15 in New Hampshire.
Then court documents said he traveled “to a Wendy’s within 4 miles of Joe Biden’s home” on May 3, WSOC reported.
Treisman also wrote “a checklist note ending with ‘execute,’” according to investigators.
The would-be mass shooter was held without bail, WSOC reported.
Investigators also said that they had recorded a jailhouse conversation between Treisman and his mother during which his mother suggested he might have to jump bail.
Officials said police found a Polish passport that had Treisman’s picture on it and a lease and electricity bill for an apartment in Quebec, Canada, WSOC reported.
Treisman pleaded not guilty to three counts of child pornography in October.
Records showed that Treisman’s attorney told the court his client has Asperger’s Syndrome, The Washington Post reported.
Chris Swecker, the former head of the FBI’s Charlotte office, said Treisman fit the profile of a domestic terrorist, WSOC reported.
“It could very well be terrorism if it’s ideologically driven,” Swecker said.
Court documents showed investigators had found video of Treisman driving through Las Vegas and praising the 2017 massacre that happened there, The Washington Post reported.
“That’s the one, that’s where they did it… nice,” he said in the video as he passed the Mandalay Bay casino.
In another video filmed at Chicago O’Hare International Airport in April, a male voice suggested it would be “awesome” to hijack a plane and fly it into a building, according to The Washington Post.
