According to The Baltimore Sun, the shooting occurred about 11:22 PM. The Baltimore County Police said someone knocked at the 50-year-old officer’s front door, and the officer went to answer it. He was shot through the door before opening it.
The officer was rushed to a local hospital for treatment and is expected to survive. The department is not releasing either the name of the hospital or the address where he lives out of safety concerns.
The BCP said that this is believed to be a targeted attack and that the officer was not shot as part of something criminal that he was involved in.
The department’s violent crimes unit is conducting the ongoing investigation. No further details are available at this time.
