9 People Wounded In Mass Shooting Outside Popular Philadelphia Bar

Philadelphia, PA – Philadelphia police are investigating after multiple gunmen opened fire and shot nine people standing in front of a popular bar on Saturday night.

The incident occurred at about 10:45 p.m. on Nov. 5 outside of Jack’s Famous Bar, located in the 800-block of East Allegheny Avenue in Philadelphia, WPVI reported.

Philadelphia Police Deputy Commissioner John Stanford said that more people were out on the town than usual for this time of year because it was such a warm evening.

Deputy Commissioner Stanford said a group of people were mingling in front of Jack’s Famous Bar when multiple gunmen got out of a black vehicle that was stopped in the middle of East Allegheny Avenue near Kensington Avenue, WPVI reported.

The gunmen opened fire on the people standing on the sidewalk in front of the bar.

Nine people were wounded and two of them remain in critical condition, WPVI reported.

Deputy Commissioner Stanford said that at least 40 shots had been fired into the crowd.

“At this point in time, it just looks like these individuals may have spotted someone they wanted to shoot at, exited the vehicle and just began firing,” he said.

The police official said investigators have not yet figured out who was being targeted or what the motive may have been for the attack, WPVI reported.

Deputy Commissioner Stanford said there was already a heavy police presence in the neighborhood where the shooting occurred before the gunfire erupted.

He said officers on foot patrol heard the gunfire and rushed to help the wounded, WPVI reported.

The police official told reporters that the gunmen ran back to a dark vehicle and fled the area.

Deputy Commissioner Stanford said a narcotics task force was also in the area doing an investigation a half of a block away from Jack’s Famous Bar, WPVI reported.

“We have some brazen individuals in this city that don’t care. They don’t care how many police officers are out here and some don’t care in terms of how many people are out here,” he said.

The deputy commissioner said investigators had recovered at least 40 pieces of ballistic evidence from the scene, WPVI reported.

He said investigators planned to go through security videos from business in the area to try to identify the gunmen.

Deputy Commissioner Stanford said seven of the people who were shot were in stable condition and two were critical, WPVI reported.
