60-Year-Old Texas Homeowner Wounded In Fatal Gunfight With Would-Be Home Invaders

Houston, TX – A 60-year-old man fatally shot a trespasser after the intruder shot him in the leg early Saturday morning.

The incident occurred in the 8600-block of Woodway at approximately 3:30 a.m. on June 10, KRIV reported.

There had recently been multiple vehicle thefts in the area, so when one 60-year-old homeowner with a security camera spotted two men sneaking through a hole in a fence, he went outside to confront them, according to KPRC.

Investigators said the homeowner approached the two intruders and told them to leave the property.

That’s when the suspects allegedly opened fire on him, shooting him in the leg, KPRC reported.

The homeowner, who was armed with a pistol, fired multiple rounds and hit one of the suspects several times.

The wounded suspect ran back through the fence and went over to the other side of the apartment complex, where he was found by another resident, KRIV reported.

He was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to KPRC.

His identity was not immediately released.

The 60-year-old homeowner was also transported to a local hospital for treatment and is expected to recover.

Police said he is cooperating with the investigation, KPRC reported.

The search for the second suspect remains ongoing.

Police said they believe the second suspect may have taken the gun used to shoot the homeowner with him when he fled the scene.

It is unclear whether police know his identity.

Investigators have located video of the shootout, according to KPRC.

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.

It is unclear whether anyone will face criminal charges.

Houston police responded to at least seven shootings in just 12 hours that same night, KTRK reported.

Three of them involved fatalities.
