Christchurch, New Zealand – At least one gunman has opened fire at the Masjid Al Noor Mosque at around 1:14 p.m. local time in an apparent terrorist attack.
Local media are reporting at least 27 dead with many more wounded. A witness has said that the gunman spent 20 minutes going from room to room and killing people, including children.
There was then a second shooting at another mosque, possibly committed by the same gunman.
A bomb has been located in a car in the area.
One gunman is in custody, but it’s unknown if there are additional suspects.
The gunman who identified himself as 28-year-old Brenton Tarrant uploaded a video online of the shooting while murdering people, along with a 74 page manifesto.
The unconfirmed gunman’s social media account posted an image of his semi-automatic rifle before the attack.
The unconfirmed shooter’s manifesto makes it appear he is obsessed with “white genocide,” a white nationalist conspiracy theory.
