16 Year Old Facing New Charges For Sexual Assault, Attempted Murder Of Teacher

Las Vegas, NV – Nine additional charges were filed on Monday against the 16 year old accused of brutally beating and sexually assaulting a teacher he was angry with over some bad grades.

The student – 16-year-old Jonathan Martinez Garcia – is facing a slew of felony charges in connection with the attack including attempted murder, sexual assault, and kidnapping, KLAS reported.

Court documents indicated that Garcia was in the 11th grade at Eldorado High School.

The police report said that Garcia’s teacher told the student to stop by her classroom on April 7 “to see what assignments he might be missing in her class,” KLAS reported.

Police said the teacher told them that she and Garcia were at her desk reviewing assignments when she suddenly felt like she was being choked.

Court documents indicated that investigators believed Garcia used a computer cord to strangle his teacher, KLAS reported.

Police said that at some point, the student repeatedly smashed his teacher’s head against an object until he forced her to lose consciousness.

The teacher told investigators she remembered waking up alone in the room, KLAS reported.

Police said she told them that was when Garcia returned to her classroom and attacked her again.

The teacher said Garcia punched her in the face, KLAS reported.

She told police she “asked Jonathan repeatedly why he was ‘doing this’ to her,” and Garcia replied that he really liked her but “didn’t like teachers” in general and was “getting revenge.”

Police said Garcia then held his hands on the teacher’s neck until she lost consciousness again, KLAS reported.

The teacher told investigators that when she woke up the second time, her pants and underwear had been pulled down.

Police said Garcia tried to put a large cabinet in the room over his teacher, KLAS reported.

The teacher told police that once point, Garcia called a parent from the classroom.

“Can’t you just die already, hurry up,” the teacher said Garcia demanded.

The teacher said she pretended to be dead so that the student would leave, KLAS reported.

A colleague found the unconscious teacher under the cabinet and called 911.

When Garcia was arrested after the attack, he told investigators that he had tried to sexually assault his teacher “but stopped himself.”

Garcia told police that he had masturbated instead and that his DNA would be found on the victim, KLAS reported.

He claimed a cat had given him the scratches on his arms, according to court documents.

Jail records indicated the 16 year old had been booked into the Clark County Detention Center and initially charged with three counts of attempted murder, sexual assault, robbery, and battery with intent to commit sex assault, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.

The charges added on April 11 brought the total against Garcia to 15 felonies, KLAS reported.

On April 12, a judge ordered Garcia to undergo evaluations by two separate doctors to evaluate his competency to stand trial.

The 16 year old is charged as an adult and has been held in jail in lieu of a $500,000 bail, KLAS reported.
