1 Killed, Critically-Injured 6-Year-Old Among 5 Wounded In Mass Shooting At Atlanta Park

Atlanta, GA – A man was killed and a six-year-old child was listed in critical condition after a mass shooting during a ballgame on Sunday night.

The incident occurred at the Rosa L. Burney Park’s Dunbar Recreational Center on Windsor Street at approximately 7 p.m. on Aug. 7, WSB reported.

Atlanta Police Department (APD) Deputy Chief Charles Hampton said the shooting occurred after an argument erupted during a ballgame that was taking place at the park.

“There was some type of baseball or softball game going on at the park. There was an argument that ensued and the next thing you know, there was an exchange in gunfire,” Deputy Chief Hampton said, according to FOX News.

A 30-year-old man succumbed to his wounds at Grady Memorial Hospital, WSB reported.

A six-year-old child was also shot in the attack.

The child was rushed to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Egleston Hospital in critical condition, WSB reported.

Four other people who were shot during the incident were listed in stable condition.

No arrests were immediately made and police did not release any information about a potential suspect, FOX News reported.

“As we’ve said countless times, we’re just asking the citizens just to find a way to resolve conflict without weapons,” Deputy Chief Hampton told reporters. “We’re just asking people to, you know, step away. We’re asking people just to let bygones be bygones.”

He said there were “a lot of people” in the area at the time of the attack, WXIA reported.

“Again, this is not a place for gunplay,” he added.

The APD asked for anyone with information about the shooting to contact police immediately.
