BREAKING: Riley County Officer Shot In ‘Active Shooter Situation’

There is an active shooter situation happening in Riley County, Kansas, and one officer has been shot.

Manhattan, KS – A suspect is barricaded inside a home and a police officer has been shot in what the Riley County Police Department (RCPD) has described as “an active shooter situation” in a Facebook alert on Friday.

RCPD Director Brad Schoen said the suspect was shooting at police and a sniper has been called to scene, according to WIBW.

RCPD said officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in the 3700 block of Hawthorne Woods Circle.

When police arrived around 12:30 p.m., the officers found an ongoing active shooter situation, and one officer wounded.

The officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital, The Wichita Eagle reported.

Police have asked people to avoid the area around the home where the suspect who allegedly shot the officer is barricaded.

More officers were called after the suspect barricaded himself inside the home, and additional law enforcement is continuing to arrive on the scene.

Schoen said a woman was able to get out of the home, and authorities think the suspect is the only person left inside the house.

Bergman Elementary School, located about a half mile from the barricaded home, was put into lockdown. All students and staff will remain inside the building until the situation is resolved.

UPDATE: The suspect surrendered.
